1/2 chicken had good flavor and was tender.
The restaurant was clean and the ambiance was enjoyable. The pitmaster and other employee were polite and efficient. The food presentation was lovely.
Not much else going on. Corn bread muffins are ok but small, Mac and cheese is a little watery.
As a resident Texan we are sometimes reluctant to have barbecue off native soil. So glad we did this time. We partook of the pulled pork, ribs, brisket and chicken. They were all fabulous. Good smoke ring, crunchy and flavorful bark, tender and moist. The BBQ sauce was quite tasty and a nice compliment to the meat although our preference is sauce on the side and let the meat speak for itself. According to the charming and polite owner/pitmaster the locals prefer sauce on, so that’s how they serve; fair enough answer. Our sides were beans, potato salad, coleslaw and jalapeño cornbread. The sides were good but not enough so that you would finish them before the meat. They got five stars from us because barbecue really is about the meat so the sides were ancillary.
Burnt Ends were amazing. Other meats have been good as well. Additionally, all of the sides are delicious. A very solid barbecue place.
Man that could not have been a more perfect meal! I've been given recommendations to other places to eat while I'm in town, but I can't imagine not going back every day for the rest of my trip. To be fair, the recommenders did say to go to Bad Betty's first.
Highly disagree with the "too spicy" reviews. Montana is famous for being too bland but this place isn't! Thought they could use some sauces on the table (vinegar, bbq, hot, etc).
All in all, we will be back if we are ever in the area again.
I just ate the best brisket, slaw, and beans I've ever had, and plan to sample everything else on the menu in the next few days. I HIGHLY recommend you stop in here!
Probably the best BBQ I have had in Montana. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is due to cost versus how big the portions are. I feel that for a $14 meal you should definitely get more food. For lunch for two people is pretty expensive.
