You can tell that everyone loves this place because of how busy they are. Although you may call and be told 15 to 20 minutes, be prepared for between 45 minutes to an hour and a half on a busy night. Having said that, the food is absolutely worth the wait. I get the Wong's special fried rice, sweet-and-sour pork ribs and almond chicken for my family. Fun little mom-and-pop restaurant. Also be aware that they only take checks or cash and it is take out only.
- Pork Foo Young
Hubby and I were excited to try this place because of all the great reviews. When I called to order, the young lady who answered was very polite and helpful (great customer service). It only took about 20min for our order to be ready. At home the first thing I noticed was one of the brown paper bags was soaked with oil (almost 1/2way up the bag). It turned out to be my son's fried chicken, which he ate but didn't care for. He also had egg drop soup but said it was ""very different". Possibly from mushrooms in it. I ordered the steak w/green peppers, onions, and mushrooms (pepper steak) w/fried rice. I expected a "black pepper" taste along with the other veggies but it was mostly green peppers. To me, that drowned out any other flavor they were going for. The sauce was very bland as well and I ended up not eating it. Hubby had the pork egg foo young w/pfr, which he found bland (but ate it anyway). The rolls we had( egg & veg. egg) were greasy but had a bit more depth regarding flavor compared to the main meals. All in all this was not a positive experience for us. We felt that the cost to quality ratio was unbalanced. With all of the other great reviews, we hope it was just a fluke but are very uneasy about trying it again.
- BBQ Pork Lo Mein
- Cashew/almond chicken if it's a busy time of day
I love Wong's, but you have to know what you're getting into. It's all super old school style recipes, so don't get something like orange chicken or chow mein expecting it to look the same. The best things here are:
It has been years but I remember this place being better. Is there not a Asian cuisine joint in town where the meat doesn't have the texture of soggy rubber? Oh and the left overs turn into a gelatinous mass. It was like Jello but with broccoli, onions and beef inside. It wasn't bad fresh but for 15$ I'd rather get the craps from Panda.
Hope they stay open for another year! I know they want to retire very soon.
Both dishes we ordered tonight were very bland. I don't like spice, but hardly any flavor to our food. Disappointed.
- Soups are unusual but good
- The very unique eggrolls
